24 YEARS EXPERIENCE PROVIDING COMPLEMENTARY THERAPY TREATMENTS
I have been practicing complementary therapy since first qualifying in Swedish massage in 1994 from Morley College in London. I soon found that it was work that I loved and the following year trained in Aromatherapy and in Reflexology with Renee Tanner. I subsequently trained with Barbara McGregor in Reiki and Narendra and Kundan Mehta at the London Centre of Indian Champissage in Indian head and in facial rejuvenation massage. A few years later while travelling in Thailand I studied Thai compress massage.
With over 24 years experience in a wide range of complementary therapy treatments I have a wealth of hands-on experience which I endeavor to use to make each treatment I give just right for the recipient.
The quintessential massage therapy, Swedish massage uses a harmonious combination of different strokes that will sooth away those knotted, tense muscles while delivering mental and physical relaxation. The pressure used can be firm or gentle and will be tailored to your needs. A body massage can be adapted to suit any stage of pregnancy.
Uses smooth volcanic basalt stones heated, and oiled, to smoothly but firmly work into tense and knotty muscles. The stones are an effective medium for retaining heat and, combined with the massaging action on the muscles, relaxes and releases muscular tension. The heat from the stones also expands blood vessels allowing increased blood flow which in turn brings fresh oxygen and nutrients and helps to remove toxins. Overly tense muscles can hinder the massage procedure, so if your muscles are extremely tight or stiff, the heated stones may provide the extra relaxation you need for the massage to be beneficial in releasing tension and easing sore muscles.
Thai massage is traditionally known for its work on energy (Sen) lines. In a thai herbal compress massage steam heated herbal balls are used to release blockages from these lines assisting the body’s own natural healing process to restore balance. The compress traditionally consists of a mixture of several herbs traditionally used in Thai herbal medicine, such as lemongrass, turmeric, kaffir lime, camphor and tamarind. The compresses are steamed and then worked into the muscles. As the pores open from the moist heat it allows the herbs to take effect. Ailments such as stiff, sore or pulled muscles and ligaments are relieved.
During treatment warm organic coconut oil is worked into the skin and heated bamboo tools are used to deliver long sweeping effleurage strokes interspersed with targeted deep pressure work on knots and tension. As with all modalities of massage muscle tension is treated but in this case using a range of different sized warmed silky bamboo canes which allow the application of deeper broader pressure and longer sweeping strokes. As with other treatments that apply heat, this also has a releasing affect on the muscles and connective tissue. A relatively new style of massage that is fast gaining popularity in health spas.
Aromatherapy proffers the many healing and therapeutic properties of essential oils. Following a short consultation a blend is created specifically for you and your treatment commences with the application of your unique personal blend using an aromatherapy massage. Much gentler than a Swedish or deep tissue massage, the focus of this treatment is on the therapeutic action of the oils on the body and nervous system as they are inhaled and absorbed through the skin. True to this philosophy you will also be given a bottle of your tailor made blend to continue your treatment at home.
Sports massage tends to focus more on a specific area, such as a shoulder or a knee, and uses deep tissue massage and manipulation to address underlying causes of discomfort and reduced mobility. A regular sports massage can help to prevent muscle strain, fatigue and soreness.
This revolutionary facial is often also referred to as ‘Natural Facelift Massage’. The treatment starts with a cleansing of the skin followed by energy work on pressure points of the face. Then an involved, precise series of unique massage techniques are performed to tone muscles and release fixed areas of tension in the connective tissue. It nurtures the skin by encouraging circulation and lymph drainage and is outstandingly relaxing.
An invigorating and effective seated massage usually performed without oil and through light clothing such as a t-shirt. This treatment focuses on releasing muscular tension in the upper back, shoulders, neck and scalp.
Thai Foot Massage is a treatment of the lower legs and feet that involves hands on stretching and massage with traditional camphorous Thai balm to decongest Sen (energy) Lines and relieve aches and fatigue in the lower limbs, along with the use of a rounded stick to stimulate pressure points on the feet to promote general health and well-being.
A deeply relaxing holistic treatment, performed on the feet, so no need to undress, using specific and potent techniques to provide a balancing treatment that brings health and vitality to the entire body. Helpful for numerous conditions, reflexology is highly recommended to counteract the effects of overly busy stressful lives and as a beneficial treatment during pregnancy (after the first trimester).
A healing energy that is passed to the recipient’s body through the hands of the practitioner. Sublimely relaxing on a physical, emotional and spiritual level. Reiki is a pure and holistic treatment that, whatever your circumstances, can enable subtle, wide-reaching and sometimes unexpected changes to occur. There is no need to undress for a Reiki treatment as the energy transmits through clothing.
